LYING between Pamplona and Ribera, the Orba Valley is full of nobility in spite of its secular abandon. Mansions and country homes reveal hundreds of coats of arms, such as that of theologist Martín de Azpilicueta, the most famous of its sons. According to Julio Caro Baroja, “The Orba Valley has close connections to noble folk”. But above all it is proud of its incredible medieval heritage, with abundance of Navarre Romanesque. And these are not merely simple products of popular art, but veritable masterpieces: the Eristáin farmstead, the shrine to the Santo Cristo de Cataláin, San Martín de Orísoain, the Church of the Assumption in Olleta, the shrine to San Pedro ad Vincula in Olóriz or the Romanesque granary at Iracheta are well worth a visit.
